The super high shank on F&R 804 is a very rare fitting these days, so you are pretty much stuck with the feet that came with the machine. So in my opinion the standard low shank on Kenmore 158.1756 and F&R 504 is a big plus. I think low shank is the most common foot fitting, and there are loads of feet out there that you could use. In a word – worthy machines, so let’s review! FeatureĪutomatic buttonholes with a geared plate? Plus, some could chain stitch with a special adapter that clipped onto the hook instead of the bobbin case – both in vertical oscillating and rotary models. ![]() And boy, did they come with some fancy cams! Cams for fancy stitches with reverse shown in the manualsįlat bed models also came with even fancier geared bobbin cover plates to which one could attach a special buttonholer or a monogrammer. Sometimes it even creates new patterns! Cam 24Īnd of course you can make sure that your fanciest patterns come out exactly right. But they have variable stretch stitch, that is the extent of the reverse motion in back-and-forth stitch can be regulated. These machines are completely cam-driven, so they need a zig-zag cam to do plain zig-zag, and it is not always built in. Some come with a few built-in stitches, others with a box of cams, and the top models have both – the most commonly used utility stitches built in, plus fancy embroidery stitches as cams. These are good solid machines, smooth running and of steel construction.
